Background
Polyline Press started as a hosted online workshop titled “Polyline to Print” which introduced the basics of copperplate intaglio etching to architecture and design students at the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD). The first of these workshops was held on Zoom in January and February 2021 as part of the school’s Winter J-Term workshop program. The inaugural workshop held in 2021 included five students: Agustina Labarca, Nicole Piepenbrink, Ciara Stein, Hugh Taylor, and Edward Wang. In 2022, a second J-Term workshop also included another five students and graduates from the GSD: Junainah Ahmed, T.K. Justin Ng, Delara Rahim, Mengfei Wang, Reuben Zeiset, and with an additional plate from Kevin Liu.
This output of the first two years of workshops were catalogued in the Polyline to Print book and included the first 11 plates and their digital masters. The original plates and their proofs were exhibited as part of the first Polyline to Print exhibition held on the second-floor exhibition wall at the GSD, taking place over April and May of 2022. All the plates have been editioned as part of a limited print run series of between 15 and 45 impressions of each plate. The plates were cancelled upon the completion of the project in November 2022.
A follow up Polyline to Print three-day in-person workshop was open to the public at the a83 Gallery workshop in New York, in August of 2022 with a second workshop held in 2023.
